Eliminate or reduce your need for glaucoma drops with iStent®

iStent®

Proven safe and effective, the iStent® Trabecular Micro-Bypass is a new glaucoma treatment that will decrease the eye pressure of patients with open-angle glaucoma. This will greatly diminish the need for glaucoma drops as the flow of fluid from the eye is increased.

Restore your vision and have your iStent® completed now at personalEYES.

What is iStent®?

Glaukos iStent® is the smallest medical device ever approved by the FDA.

Glaukos iStent®It is a tiny L-shaped device made of titanium—one millimeter long and 0.33 millimeters high—and is pre-loaded in the inserter of the iStent® for implantation inside the eye.

It is placed in your eye during cataract surgery and is so small that you won't be able to see or feel it after the procedure is over.

How it Works

Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery MIGS is a new glaucoma treatment. It has proven to be a very safe and effective way of improving the eye's natural fluid outflow, therefore rendering glaucoma drops unnecessary.

When the iStent® is properly implanted inside the eye, it creates a direct path for fluid to flow between the fluid-filled chamber of the front of the eye and the major collector channel that directs fluid out of the eye. This bypasses the meshwork of tissue through which the fluid normally flows.

What will it accomplish?

The iStent® is a treatment used to decrease the eye pressure of patients with open-angle glaucoma. Open-angle glaucoma is an eye disease that results in damage to the nerve of the eye (the optic nerve) and permanent vision loss due to the high pressure inside the eye.

The iStent® Procedure

The iStent® is implanted inside the eye during cataract surgery (surgery to remove the natural lens that has become cloudy and caused significant vision loss) in adults with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma and who are currently being treated with medications, such as glaucoma drops to reduce eye pressure.

The iStent® glaucoma treatment spares important eye tissue that is often damaged by traditional surgeries and also does not limit various treatment options that could help maintain your vision in future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is iStent®?
iStent® is a a tiny L-shaped device made of titanium, one millimeter long and 0.33 millimeters high. It is pre-loaded in the inserter of the iStent® for implantation inside the eye.

What does iStent® do?
The iStent® is a glaucoma treatment, designed to increase the flow of fluid out of the eye.

How does iStent® work?
It creates a permanent opening in your trabecular meshwork, and works continuously to improve the outflow of fluid from your eyes to help control eye pressure.

When should the iStent® not be used?
The iStent® should not be used in eyes with angle-closure glaucoma. This is where the fluid is prevented from leaving the eye because the angle of the eye—where the fluid normally drains out—is closed off.

The iStent® should also not be implanted in patients with any condition that causes high pressure in the veins into which the collector channels of the eye drain the fluid, such as thyroid eye disease, a tumor behind the eye, or a 'port-wine stain' birthmark (involving the upper eyelid caused by an abnormal collection of small vessels near the eye).
